The NFPA 1915 Standard for Fire Apparatus Preventive
Maintenance Program 2000 establishes guidelines for the institution of a
preventive maintenance program for fire apparatus. These standards shall
be fully applicable to both public and private entities involved in the
use of such equipment. Identification of the systems and items that are
governed by this regulation is determined in addition to the frequency and
requirements for testing. These standards are not intended to supplant any
specifications as defined by the manufacturers of the equipment; the intent
is to ensure the readiness and safe operation when use is required.
On
Site Service and Repair
Ladder
Inspection and Load Tests
As per NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire
Apparatus, these regulations are applicable to any and all fire apparatus
that are equipped with an aerial ladder, an elevating platform, or a water
tower. The standards exist to guarantee a baseline safety factor in regard
to inspections and testing requirements for aerial devices due to their
subjection to overstress and misuse.
Fire
Pump Test
Guidelines for service tests of pumps or any
component used in pump operations mandate that these checks shall be conducted
at least on an annual basis or whenever major repairs or modifications are
made.
Fire
Hose Testing
Your pumper is designed to deliver large amounts
of water. When a pump that is designed to deliver 1500 plus gpm is employed
as a hydrostatic testing device it is being used for a purpose for which
it was never intended.
